The power hungry decision-makers are few in number, but powerful enough to have subverted mainstream media to misrepresent Russia as the main threat to international security. If you are a journalist or a blogger, please do your part and share this message. Time is of the essence , especially in light of the recent NATO summit in Warsaw (July 2016) where the alliance stipulated that Russia is the main threat to international security (did you think that might be ISIS?) YouTube would not let me upload the video I did on the Summit, but it can be found on my Vimeo: https://vimeo.com/174777588 Back in 2007, Putin informed the Western world that Russia will develop its weaponry to counter US advances. This was said in response to the US missile defense system that was starting to be developed at the time (previously prohibited in international law.) With the NATO missile defense system on Russia’s doorstep – the threat to international security is very real; not that you would know it via mainstream Murdoch media. In 2002, the United States unilaterally and without consultation, withdrew from the landmark Anti-Ballistic Missile (ABM) Treaty. President George W. Bush noted that the treaty is “now behind us,” describing the ABM Treaty as a Cold War relic. Signed in 1972, the ABM Treaty barred both the US and the USSR from deploying national defenses against long-range ballistic missiles. The treaty was based on the premise that if either superpower constructed a strategic defense, the other would build up its offensive nuclear forces to offset the defense. The superpowers would therefore quickly be put on a path toward a never-ending offensive-defensive arms race, as each tried to balance its counterpart’s actions. Until Bush took office, the Treaty was referred to as a “cornerstone of strategic stability” because it facilitated later agreements, reducing U.S. and Russian strategic nuclear arsenals. The US, assuming that a weakened Russia will never again be in a position to counter US hegemonic power, proceeded to encroach on Russia’s borders through its manipulation of NATO objectives. Today, there is no instrument in international law that prevents the possibility of mutually assured destruction. Putin has been sending out warnings for over 10 years – all of which fell on deaf ears. Who will push the button first? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For current affairs, translations and analysis, check out http://www.Fort-Russ.com My vids also get uploaded to the Eurasia Daily page on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/eurasiadaily.nz/

This is the VOA Special English Technology Report, from http://voaspecialenglish.com | http://facebook.com/voalearningenglish Social media networks have come to play an important part in the political unrest in Syria. The Syrian government barred most media from the country after the unrest began a year ago. But that has not stopped Syrians from getting out information to the rest of the world. Many Syrians have turned to social media like YouTube, Facebook and Twitter to help spread reports about what is happening in the country. Hundreds, possibly thousands of videos have appeared on YouTube and other social media sites in the past few weeks. With few foreign reporters in Syria, social media have become a major tool for telling the world what is happening. Many news organizations have had to depend on reports and videos from people they call citizen journalists.Emanuelle Esposti is a blogger in Britain who has been studying the use of such videos by foreign media. She says it is very difficult to know where a video has actually come from or who made it or why. In early March Syria's deputy oil minister resigned to join the opposition. In a video on YouTube, Abdo Husameddine had a message for the government of President Bashar al-Assad. He said it had, in his words, "brought a year of sadness and misery to those you claim to be your people." He also said the government had deprived its people of basic needs and humanity and brought the country to the edge of disaster.Abdo Husameddine was the highest official to leave the government since the unrest began. In the video he urged other Syrian officials to resign. Syrian opposition activist Abdi Hakim Ijburi also knows about the importance of social media. He used social media to contact other opponents of the government. He says many of them wanted to hold protests like those that took place in Egypt and Tunisia. "At first, we started using Facebook, YouTube and Twitter to get a group of young people and activists together," he says. "And from that group we started organizing." In his hometown, activists started writing anti-government graffiti on walls.Abdi Hakim Ijburi says that as the protests grew, he was captured and tortured. He escaped to Lebanon, like thousands of other Syrians. He says there were lots of people in his hometown that he did not even know were part of the opposition movement, or sympathetic to that movement. In his words, "If it hadn't been for the social media we wouldn't have become united." For VOA Special English, I'm Alex Villarreal. (Adapted from a radio program broadcast 12Mar2012)

Prepare for World War 3: Anonymous hackers warn citizens will be last to know ANONYMOUS has warned the world to prepare for war in a chilling new video amid heightened tensions between the US and North Korea. The online activists declared “citizens will be the last to know” when war breaks out as governments ready themselves for battle. Anonymous used their signature Guy Fawkes character to deliver the warning in a six-minute video. With the aid of voice changer technology, the robotic sounding hacker urges viewers to “prepare for what comes next”. Earlier this month US President Donald Trump warned a “major, major conflict” with North Korea is possible as tensions escalate over Pyongyang's nuclear and missile programmes. The hacker group said: “All the signs of a looming war on the Korean peninsula are surfacing, watching as each country moves strategic pieces into place but unlike past world wars although there will be ground troops the battle is likely to be fierce. brutal and quick. “It will also be globally devastating both on the environmental and economical levels.”Anonymous makes several claims over military movements in the region and alleged Beijing has warned its citizens living in North Korea to return to China immediately. The hacker said: “This is a real war with real global consequences. With three superpowers drawn into the mix, other nations will be coerced into choosing sides, so what do the chess pieces look like so far?” Anonymous warns recent talks between President Trump and Philippines President Rodrigo Duturte signal the world is on the brink of war. The group concludes the chilling video, with the message: “Prepare for what comes next. We are Anonymous. We are Legion. We do not forgive. We do not forget.” The warning comes as North Korea detained a fourth US citizen with the White House branding the situation “concerning”. Four US citizens are currently being held in North Korea, a country with which the US has no diplomatic relations and has technically remained at war with since the 1950-53 Korean conflict.North Korea's official KCNA news agency said Kim Hak Song, who worked for the Pyongyang University of Science and Technology, was detained on Saturday on suspicion of "hostile acts" against the state. White House spokesman Sean Spicer said: "Obviously, this is concerning. We're well aware of it and we're going to work through the Embassy of Sweden ... through our State Department, to seek the release of the individuals there.” The US State Department has warned US citizens to avoid travelling to North Korea.
